fantastic job opportunity
become our new director of development and Help us grow as we head INTO OUR THIRD DECADE!
We are looking for a part-time Director of Development who has what it takes to build and implement a solid, multifaceted fundraising program.
As we look toward the future, our goal is to develop a fundraising strategy and mechanisms that will help to ensure that our program continues to serve our community for decades to come. This is an opportunity for a special person who is creative, outgoing, and energetic to design a blueprint that not only draws on methods we have been using, but also incorporates bold new approaches.
We are open to fresh ideas!
As we envision it, the position involves securing private funding and donations through a variety of means, including an annual fund, major and planned gifts, sponsorships, corporate and foundation grants, stewardship, and special events. Another challenge is to establish and maintain a donor database using appropriate software, and to draw on analyses of that information to help streamline and improve our contacts with current and future supporters.
We are especially focused on cultivating and nurturing relationships and support among individuals and corporate leaders who could potentially provide significant gifts to Rise & Shine. This latter aim demands an ability to identify and reach out to key figures, to explain our program compellingly, and to describe how a major gift would make a difference.
You would work closely with and be supported by the Board of Directors, the Fund Development Committee, and our Communications Committee. Our ideal candidate has strong oral and written communication skills, experience in fund development or a related field, excellent interpersonal skills, a proven track record as a self-starter, and a desire to forge strong relationships for our organization. Although we prefer those with a bachelor's degree, we’re open to considering all applicants who otherwise fit the bill.
If you are excited by the opportunity to help lead Rise & Shine into our third decade, please send your résumé and cover letter via email to office@riseshine.org, via postal mail to PO Box 1036, Brevard, NC 28712, or drop it off in person at 290 Oakdale Street, Brevard, NC 28712. Applications must be received by February 16, 2018.
We can’t wait to meet you!
more than two decades strong
Since 1996, when Neighbors In Ministry launched the Rise & Shine year-round after school program, we have been helping economically disadvantaged and racial minority children learn -- about the fundamental importance of education, about their community and culture, and about themselves.
Today, Rise & Shine continues to emphasize social justice and racial harmony through a variety of educational efforts. By working together in an atmosphere of respect and an environment in which differences are embraced, the scholars, staff, and volunteers all discover – for the first time, in some cases – what it is like to develop close bonds with others from different backgrounds. Executive Director Shelia McBee Norman asserts, "By working side by side, every day, with people whose skin color and life experiences differ from yours, Rise & Shine lives the values of social justice and racial harmony.” Nowhere is this more apparent than in the easy and open friendships that develop among the black, white, and Latino children served by the program. Seemingly color-blind, the youngsters study, learn, and play together, relating to one another as family.
Our approach is founded on teamwork and collaboration. The board of directors and staff work together to establish and maintain a blueprint for helping our scholars succeed, both in the classroom and in life. Our wonderful, dedicated volunteers give tirelessly of themselves to teach and coach and support the children they tutor. And parents, grandparents, and guardians reinforce these efforts. Together, we are breaking down barriers and building community.
