STREAM

(science, technology, reading / writing, engineering, art, math)

TRADITIONAL MATH usually involves memorization; whereas STEM education highlights and focuses on the application of knowledge and identifies how it fits into our everyday life.

STEM's purpose is to develop skill sets that are aligned with 21st Century practices that allow scholars to explore, discover, and learn about the world around them.  Embracing this mission, better prepares our scholars for the growing demands of our economy with future-ready practicums. STEAM also prepares our scholars with these skills, but also embraces a passion for creativity and imagination by including art. STREAM adds an additional layer to STEAM: reading and wRiting.  It's been noted the importance of literacy for a well-rounded curriculum that requires critical thinking and creativity.

DISCOVER

Scholars explore the world of science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM) through building and design challenges, as well as project-based experiments.  Scholars collaborate with their teams sharing ideas, asking questions and making predictions with focus on teamwork.

CREATE

Scholars will have an opportunity to express themselves by participating in hands-on visual art, including photography, videography, drawing, and painting.  Scholars will develop and acquire planner skills that are  needed to complete project tasks for group activity completion.

LEARN

Many of the scholars appreciate the opportunity to work independently on activities and to study after a long day at school. We provide a quiet place to work on homework, read, journal, or seek academic support from peers and teachers.  Scholars can also work on various projects in small group settings

Art

Our visual arts program combines various mediums to help students develop techniques and create art to convey their ideas. Teachers promote development of essential skills such as critical and analytical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity by teaching the production of art, appreciation of art in our history, critical assessment of art, and the connections within disciplines and the world.

Physical Education & Wellness

Our physical education and wellness program is aligned to national standards with the purpose of developing our students’ physical and health literacy. Students learn the role of physical activity and responsible decision-making for health, personal fulfillment, self-expression, and social interactions.

Technology

Our technology program is aligned to national standards. Students and teachers use technology in innovative ways to compile, organize, analyze, and present information while developing skills in coding, keyboarding, word processing, spreadsheets, and graphics. Students learn to be responsible digital citizens, collaborators, and knowledge constructors.
